We started Eden to have fun, brewing the kind of beer we want to make and the kind of beer we know smart people like you want to drink; beers combining creativity and quality using interesting and delicious ingredients.
So, it’s been great fun to be able to get our brains brewing recently and put our minds to work on the recipes for our new 440ml limited edition range. The idea of brewing a beer with yuzu has been around at Eden for a while. Jason got the inspiration for a yuzu beer during his trade missions in Japan and now we’ve finally made it a reality.
Yuzu will be a completely new flavour for many in the UK, but in the Far East people have been enjoying this refreshing fruit for generations. We’ve created an incredibly aromatic beer by mixing yuzu with fresh lemon and pink grapefruit, then adding even more layers of citrus flavour in the form of Chinook, Citra and Mandarina Bavaria hops.
The trick with a double IPA is creating a beer which has big, booming layers of hops but where the subtleties of the individual varieties aren’t lost in the crowd. We think we’ve pretty much got this cracked in our Dua-a-Dipa, which uses some new hops for us and is a complex but clean combination of the outrageously pungent Simcoe, Ekuanot, Idaho 7 and Citra hops. The result is a deeply flavoursome, savoursome beer you’ll want to roll around your mouth forever.
If you’re going to have a fruity beer, you may as well go the whole hog. Just Peachy is full of the mouth-watering flavour of fresh peach - but never overly sweet - backed up by a trio of German hops - Huell Melon, Hallertau Blanc and Mandarina Bavaria, for a veritable fruit salad of deep citrus flavour.
For a long time now, we’ve wanted to brew a truly standout, delicious botanical beer. And, as always, we thought if you’re going to have flavour, make it a lot of flavour! Kipling is infused with a complex combo of juniper, orris, kaffir lime leaf, orange zest, green cardamom, anise and Saaz hops, all riding on the magic carpet of a fruity wheat beer base. If you like your beer original and memorable, then this is the one for you!
As we increase the amount of brewing capacity we have at the brewery, our plan is to release even more limited edition beers at the rate of roughly one a month. This is great news for Jason and Linda, because they’ll have the chance to raid their limitless imaginations for new recipes, and, obviously, good news for you too.
